Our Investment Principles

1. We invest family capital only. We do not accept money from outside investors.
2. Our horizon is measured in decades, not quarters. Our favorite holding period is a long one.
3. We prefer to own good businesses outright or in meaningful part, run by capable and honest people.
4. We keep debt modest and liquidity ample, so that we are never forced to sell.
5. We would rather miss an opportunity than make an investment we do not understand.
6. When we partner with a business, we trust its management to run it. We are there when needed, with capital, counsel, or a steady hand, and we stay out of the way when not.
7. We value our reputation above any single return.
